My Story

Hello!

I’m Ana, Dons Local Action Group and Hospitality AFC Wimbledon volunteer, you might see me at the stadium, away games, on Twitter or chat with me on DLAG Instagram.

On 9 November, I'll be participating in The Big Sleep Out 4 at our beautiful stadium, joining others from our community to raise funds for Dons Local Action Group (DLAG). I’m excited to take part, but even more importantly, I’m here to ask for your support.

9th of November actually marks exactly two years since I joined DLAG, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we've achieved together. DLAG was founded in 2020 to help address rising poverty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Over the past four years, the charity has become a lifeline for thousands across Merton, Kingston, and Wandsworth. With an incredible volunteer base of over 3,000 people, we’ve managed to:

  • Provide enough food for 6 million meals to people in need
  • Distribute 3,700 reconditioned laptops to bridge the digital divide in our community
  • Deliver thousands of essential furniture items to families who are rebuilding their lives

As a volunteer with DLAG, I’ve contributed specifically in the areas of furniture, social media, and marketing. In my two years with DLAG’s furniture team, I’ve been part of the effort that delivered over 2,000 items of furniture and appliances to more than 500 families in Southwest London. It’s been humbling to see firsthand the difference that having a bed to sleep on, a table to eat at, or a sofa to relax on makes to those in need. This work is deeply meaningful to me, and it would not have been possible without the commitment of our dedicated furniture team, our wider DLAG team, and, of course, the generosity of our donors and sponsors.

Each delivery is much more than just moving furniture; it’s about restoring dignity, providing comfort, and helping people create a home. Over the past two years, we’ve made more than 600 deliveries, and each one required funding for transportation, storage, and upkeep. This is why I’m asking for your help - every single donation makes a real difference and helps us to continue supporting families who need it most.

With your support, we can keep delivering essentials to people across Merton, Kingston, and Wandsworth. A donation of any size will directly support our efforts to keep the community fed, connected, and supported. So if you’re able to contribute, please do. Your generosity will enable us to reach even more families in need, providing not only furniture but also hope and stability for those going through challenging times.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting DLAG. Together, we can make a lasting impact in our community.

Please donate if you can - your support truly matters!
